Smart Cities Network adds efforts to design municipalities provide better services at lower cost (27/04/2012)

The technical committee meeting held today in Murcia RECI has reviewed proposals to advance the implementation of electric vehicles in the cities or the development of eGovernment.

Murcia, which coordinates the energy group, has submitted a project for the implementation of Smart Cities.

The Network aims to harness new technologies to improve public services, achieve savings in costs, incorporate advances that can benefit citizens and work in coordination to improve the competitiveness of the country avoiding duplication.

Building Sustainable Cities and able to provide citizens with better services at lower cost is the role it occupies in the 23 capitals that make up the Spanish Network of Cities Smart (RECI), whose technical committee met today in Murcia.

The members of the organization share the same goal and agree on the means to achieve, based on their willingness to share experiences and work together, so that the progress made by a city is transferred to the other, thus optimizing resources and cost savings.

This is explained, Iñigo de la Serna, Santander Mayor and President of the Red-cities that "take advantage of new technologies to improve our public services, achieve savings in costs, incorporate advances that can benefit the citizens and work in coordination to improve the competitiveness of the country. "

Join forces, share projects, create synergies and avoid duplication is the reason for the network because "it makes no sense for a city to invest resources in a project when another city is doing the same."

So in RECI, its members are caring and generous because in this forum shows what advances have made in their cities and offer it to others.

Therefore, the projects submitted must meet three conditions: be very specific, easy and flexible to implement and easily replicable in other cities

The alliance is comprised of Barcelona, Burgos, Cáceres, Castellón, A Coruña, Logroño, Huesca, Madrid, Malaga, Murcia, Palencia, Pamplona, Salamanca, Santander, Segovia, Seville, Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Sabadell and Rivas-Vaciamadrid.

Transform cities into Smart Cities is the ideal tool to get citizens enjoy a better quality of life thanks to the advantages offered by new technologies.

The application of new technologies in a cross-administration leads to greater energy savings, greater efficiency and effectiveness.

This requires progress in various fields of municipal management, and this is the reason why the RECI works in five different areas: Energy (whose group coordinates Murcia), Social Innovation (A Coruña), Environment, Infrastructure, Building Livability and Sustainable Urbanism (Vitoria), Urban Mobility (Burgos and Valladolid) and Government, Economics and Business (Valencia).
