A study published in the journal "Papers of Geography," published by the University of Murcia and directed by Professor Jose Maria Gomez Espin said that society must be given the necessary control mechanisms to verify compliance with earthquake resistant standards to avoid or palliate the effects of earthquakes.
The work done at the Department of Geography at the University by the same contributor Juan Bautista Martinez Guevara, analyzes the earthquake last May in Lorca and attaches so much importance to that requirement goes on to state that "we must review the regulations concepts as stiffness or excessive static concept planning structures. "
The study adds that "the masonry changes, kidnaps, alters and affects the structural response, the pillars short and non-structural elements are deadly: Earthquakes do not kill, it is the poor construction."
The author complains about the "excessive slowness of government" which, in your opinion, hampers and extends the ability of those affected to overcome the trauma caused by the disaster.
It also regrets not used after the earthquakes past experiences and comments that "the special civil protection plans to cover only the seismic risk of the emergency management, ideally integrated risk management."
The paper also points out that Lorca is in a zone of high seismic hazard because of its location.
The same number of "Papers of Geography", a publication that has a leading position in the ranking of impacts between those of its kind, also contains works that are discussed various other issues, such as irrigation in Orihuela (Alicante), the change of land use on the Canary island of La Palma and land degradation by human activities in a region of Mexico.
