The mayor has promoted the comprehensive restoration of the piece, which opened in 1926 to honor one of the most famous Murcia and naturalists of the time.
He was responsible for the reforestation of Sierra Espuña and recovery of many species in the environment.
The project is a collaborative effort of the Department of Environment, led Adela Martinez-Cachá and MurciaEscultura program aimed at recovering the historical heritage of the city of Murcia.
The monument also is the work of one of the greatest sculptors of all time Murcia.

The work was placed at the foot of the popular ficus, which was planted in 1893.
The restoration of the work will be in charge of the grandson of the sculptor Jose Planes Lastra, also a sculptor and specializes in the work of his grandfather.
The project could be completed for the celebration of World Environment Day, on 5 June.
Ricardo Codorníu and Starico ', grandfather of the inventor of the autogyro, was engineer of Forestry and the staunchest defender of the environment and the care of nature, which made him the leading advocate for reforestation Espuña and Guardamar.
His interest in the public awareness of the need to preserve the natural environment, earning him the nickname the Tree Apostle, resulted in hundreds of conferences and the publication of various works.
After his death in 1923 he paid him several honors, including the placement of several sculptures in the Retiro Park in Madrid Espuña and the Plaza de Santo Domingo in Murcia.
