Murcia City Council approves the project Mobisec focusing on safety, promote alternatives to car transport, awareness and education ...
The Governing Board of the City of Murcia has approved the project this week Mobisec (mobility initiatives for a sustainable European communities) focused mainly on urban transport safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Also, the goal is also to promote these modes as alternatives to private car use.
The project also includes actions such as interoperability in terms of modes of transport.
Some of the actions to be performed include:
-Safety of cyclists and pedestrians: including the design and installation of separative between the bike path and sidewalks and including the installation of traffic lights for cyclists, as well as several smaller performances and studies leading to improved security.
- Improving the transport network: improving the design and rationale for investment, using information technologies (ICT's) and locators.
- Intermodality: creating an intermodal portal with real time information of the public transportation available to the user, and their status.
- Awareness and Education: campaigns, driver education programs, promotion of roads for cycling.
- Citizen participation: creating working groups, advocacy, email and website, feedback from the opinions and suggestions of citizens.
These actions also added to make the project meetings with the other two European cities participating in the project.
Thus, it is noteworthy that Murcia will act as project leader and two other partners are the cities of Varna (Bulgaria) and Lodz (Poland).
