76 percent of kidney patients are in favor of xenotransplantation, as one of the conclusions of the doctoral dissertation at the University of Murcia by Laura Martinez Alarcon.
The research studied a population of patients in waiting list at the hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca of Murcia for liver transplantation -164 - and -221 renal transplantation - for the period 2003-2005.
The factors influencing this view are the educational level of respondents and the opinion they have about organ donation at death, says the doctoral thesis, which has been rated as excellent cum laude.
The data also indicate that in liver patients is 85 percent for both tissue xenotransplantation to cell percentage in the case of kidney patients stood at 83.
As regards the transplantation of a family member to another in vivo, the most favorable to them are young, single and educated.
The dissertation was directed by Professors Antonio Rios, Manuel Guillermo Ramis and Paul Ramirez.
