Professor at the University of Murcia Ángel Pascual Martinez Soto is the director of the "Journal of Microfinance and Banking MBS Social," published by the Foundation Cajamar and whose first issue was presented today at the seat of the Rector of the educational institution.
The publication, which is the first magazine in microfinance which is published in Spain, is hosting a six monthly and a scientific-informative in which the most relevant experts in the field contribute to the debate about the social dimension of finance.
This first issue includes articles about topics such as "social efficiency of Spanish credit cooperatives", "financial cooperation for development", "microcredit, poverty, gender" or "liquidations, bankruptcies and reorganizations of microfinance," among other charts.
Among the contributors highlights the professor of economics at Yale University Timothy W.
Guinnane, who was present at the ceremony of presentation and subsequently gave a lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business on microfinance institutions in the past and today.
The coordinator of the specialist, Professor Angel Pascual Martinez, who is also director of the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Murcia, said that microfinance is a "powerful tool to eradicate poverty."
"The social banking, he added, are relevant in a world in crisis and our experiences can be transferred to microfinance institutions in developing countries, where, he said, the economic crisis has also brought a beaten strong and growing poverty" .
For this reason, the magazine, which will be available on paper and turn-web-page Cajamar Foundation, is focused on Latin America, where the phenomenon of microfinance institutions is booming.
Although, he added Martinez, "there are levels of microfinance that would apply to developed countries of Europe, which would constitute a useful tool to get credit flowing and PAUL and the crisis we are experiencing."
The event was chaired by the rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, which brought the publication of the magazine as an example of research that benefit society.
In turn, the president spoke of the importance to the educational institution to partner with Cajamar, "one of the leading credit unions in the country," he said.
The bank was represented by a delegation headed by Francisco Cortes, director of Foundation programs Cajamar, who referred to the interest and enthusiasm that has been in the publishing project.
