United Left-Green has reported today that 58.4 percent of the budget of the North of Murcia Municipal Board for this year will go to popular festivals, which has been called "unpresentable" given the economic situation facing the municipality.
The left-wing organization explained that the Board's total budget, which covers the neighborhoods of San Anton, San Basilio, San Andres and the Ranero, amounts to 65,846 euros, of which 38,487 are festivals and only 8,000 for cultural activities and sports.
He noted that the budget approved by the PP with the abstention of the PSOE, does not provide grants for neighborhood associations, while 6,500 euros intended to supply printers, fax machines and other equipment, and conduct of the festival program.
The member of IU-Greens in North Municipal Board, Joaquin Morote, said that the budget violates the rules of participation, which states that municipal councils should manage 8 percent of the total budget from City Hall.
To Morote, "the budget should take precedence over social and educational level at a time of crisis like the present, in which there are many people seeking solutions from public administrations, especially the problems of integration in San Andrés."
