A doctoral dissertation at the University of Murcia by Professor Maria Victoria Aragon states that "the discourse of water shortage in Murcia has caused a media blitz" and that citizens "have been involved in a process of propaganda" that has been used the use of exaggeration.
According to the author of the study, this speech "has silenced the voices of those who, less economistic position, raised the need for a different model of water management and governance and regional development."
Aragon also adds that "has encouraged a culture of silence or in accordance with the 'majority' by those who have not shared in the local version, which is in line with one of the theories involving the spirit of this work, theory of the spiral of silence. "
The dissertation, which has obtained excellent cum laude, states that "in water has been a dispute over the vote and the economic interests of one sector of the population, whose voice has been leaked to the public."
"The water policy, he concludes, has been subordinated to the interests of these groups, who have used a better chance to express themselves in the public sphere using tools of political communication."
The dissertation was directed by Professors Lorella and Mary Dolores Castorena Frutos.
