The next day of the Epiphany will be held at the Holy Cathedral of Murcia traditional concert of Kings (05/01/2012)

The next day of the Epiphany, January 6th, at six o'clock, will be held at the Holy Cathedral of Murcia traditional concert of Kings.

On this occasion the Choir and the Choir of the Cathedral of Murcia and the Coral Benedictus, accompanied by an orchestra, will perform two carols Padre Antonio Soler.

Antonio Soler Olot was born in the year 1729.

At six years old entered the Choir of Montserrat where he studied music and organ.

He entered the order of Jerónimos and was ordained priest in 1752.

He was choirmaster at the Cathedral of Lerida and choirmaster of the monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

There he studied with Domenico Scarlatti was, at that time, the composer of the Spanish court.

Although known for more than 200 sonatas for harpsichord (discovered and edited by Frederick Marvin, pianist), are also counted in the catalog 132 Carols.

In the musical archives of the Cathedral of Murcia are preserved copies of some of the works of Father Soler, but in the inability to access the music file, we prepared the two carols that we present today in this concert of Kings.

"From a Master of the Chapel," written in 1774, is a Christmas carol for choir theme four mixed voices (three white voices and a male voice).

The choir presents the topic has not been sufficient time to prepare the Christmas concert, so the cantorcillos will rehearse the portal.

Choirmaster appears he does enter the children's choir to start the trial.

The teacher is very angry and frightened children to the teacher's threats.

It teaches children a phrase repeated four voices.

A joyous cacophony interrupted the trial.

The Master gets angry and returns to the test with another chorus phrase repeated five voices.

A cloud comes over and starts to rain.

Children ring the bells to warn of the storm.

Once past the danger of getting wet are directed to the child portal to sing the tune they have learned.

The "College Contradanza" composed in 1763, four mixed voices and soprano solo, includes a very catchy melody that begins the soloist and the choir repeated all to the accompaniment of percussion instruments lyricist defined as "chascarraschás" and " trapalatrá ".

The Choir and the Choir of the Cathedral of Murcia, led by Gabriel Bastida, priest, and the Coral Benedictus, directed by Carmen Maria Bastida, sister of the former, wanted to unite their voices in this concert Reyes to present these two carols of the Father Soler.

We collaborate with some string players and keyboard, very young.

Some of them were members of the Choir of the Cathedral of Murcia before his disappearance in 2009.

All of them are or have been students at the Conservatory of Music of Murcia.

We also have the support of the Soprano Gemma Hernandez, a student of singing at the same Conservatory and baritone José Pedro Frutos, a friend many years ago we started on this adventure of choral music.

We thank everyone for their generous collaboration and hope to enjoy this concert of Kings that just wants to be a fun time before the end of Christmas.
