The situation of women in prisons throughout the world is the subject of an international meeting held today, Monday 28, at the University of Murcia, organized by Professors Lola Fruits and Consuelo del Val.
During the morning session, Pat Carlen, director of the famed British Journal of Criminology, has lectured on the element of discrimination against women in prisons.
The meeting, which opened at the School of Social Work Gaspar Ros by the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the center, Enrique Pastor, opened with a conference on public policy of equality in prisons, in charge of territorial delegate Institutions Prisons in Western Andalusia, Concepción Yagüe.
The session has been completed with the papers of Professor at the University of Salamanca Carcedo Rodrigo, who spoke about sexuality and relationships in prison, and technical advisor for the Study of Women's Institute, José Luis Burgos, which he did about State system of gender indicators.
Are planned for the afternoon lectures of Professor Corina Giacomello, National Autonomous University of Mexico, to chat about the situation of women in prisons in the Latin American country, and professor of the Universidad Nacional de la Plata Jorge Jaunarena, which will address the issue of communication in prisons.
The day will close with the presentation "Imprisonment, social exclusion and poverty", by the director of the School of Social Work at Gijón, María José Capellín.
