The Municipal Progress and Democracy Union of the City of Murcia today introduced a motion to be debated at the next plenary in relation to the situation in Western Sahara and the Sahrawi people.
The motion, tabled by mayor José Antonio Sotomayor is intended that the House make a statement in which institutional reveals support for the Saharawi people, a condemnation of the violation of human rights, civil and political suffering, and a commitment to cooperation.

MOTION CITY UNION GROUP PROGRESS AND DEMOCRACY THE PLENARY OF THE CITY OF MURCIA.
José Antonio Sotomayor Sánchez, Municipal Councillor UPyD Group (Progress and Democracy Union), under the provisions of Article 15 of the Organic Regulation of the municipal council of Murcia, formula, for discussion and approval if the corresponding plenary, the following Motion:
The Saharawi people is linked to Spain by historical, political, cultural and sentimental, and is also the only North African nation where Spanish is widely spoken.
Since 1964 the Organization of the United Nations includes the Western Sahara on its list of territories subject to a process of decolonization, and to date has not been able to complete their full access to Self-Determination and Independence on an equal footing with the rest nations of the world due to illegal occupation of most of its territory by Morocco.
The Saharawi people have to complete the exercise of the right to self determination and independence of Western Sahara through the mechanisms established by international law and, while this does not occur, we recognize the legitimacy of the effective administration by the Saharawi authorities on the free part of Western Sahara the Moroccan occupation.
For the foregoing City Council intends to adopt the following plenary
AGREEMENT:
The Plenum of the City of Murcia, formed by the democratically elected representatives stated that:
-Reporting the situation of deprivation of liberty and civil and political rights suffered by the Saharawi people in the illegally occupied Western Sahara by Morocco since the invasion in November 1975.
Condemns the illegal exploitation, the occupying Moroccan place of its natural resources, and express our concern and rejection of human rights violations carried out by police and military forces in Morocco occupied Western Sahara, including illegal detention, torture , arbitrary imprisonment without trial, rape, murder and disappearances.
He agrees to do everything in their power to strengthen cooperation with the Saharawi people and their authorities, to improve their living conditions and development in all areas.
