PSOE spokesman, Pedro Lopez, committed to open a public participation process to help define what projects should be carried out in the Old Jail building, in short, will become city property after the agreement reached between Murcia City Council and the Ministry of Finance, current owner of the property.
Lopez says that the project chosen should be the result of consensus and be adapted to the times and not a Pharaonic project.
"This is a landmark building, situated in the heart of the city, which can perform interesting and creative initiatives also could meet the needs and wants of Murcia" he says.
In this sense, the Socialist spokesman proposes the implementation of a major cultural center, fair trade and organic farming, a kind of project inspired by the City of the other economy of Rome (a cultural and commercial exchanges occur where , sales and all kinds of artistic events and meetings related to the social economy, among other activities).
"This could be one of the uses that could give the property, but the important thing is to open a process of participation of citizens and associations to contribute their views", he concluded.
