The old prison building will become municipal property shortly after conclusion today by the Governing Board of the agreement between the city of Murcia and the Tax Office under the Ministry of Finance and current owner of the property.
Thus, the City manages to recover other public space located in a strategic location in the city, continuing the initiative launched by the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, for Murcia to enjoy symbolic buildings in the city.
This achievement adds to those already achieved for the municipality, as the ultimate recovery of the River Segura, the signing of the agreement for the undergrounding of the railway, passing through the municipality of Murcia, the rehabilitation of the environment Artillery Barracks as a cultural space, educational and recreational for Murcia and the creation of sculptural spaces among others.
In return, through a swap with the city of Murcia, the tax may have the land that needs to reunite his services in two municipal lots of care and cultural facilities of 3,300 and 4,600 meters, 7900 meters in total between Juan Carlos I Avenue and Juan de Borbon, which yield the Town Hall, and that in turn will become owner of the old jail building.
