HUERMUR has championed the protection of the Council of Wise Men and the need for urgent action to safeguard the existence of this court is now in grave danger
A representation of the Association for the Conservation of Huerta de Murcia, headed by Pedro Jesus Fernandez, has moved to Elche to participate in the first International Conference on Intangible Heritage of Humanity in Spain, organized by the Chair Mystery of Elche, Miguel Hernández University, which has its headquarters in the city of Alicante.
The conference will have exposed the experiences of different elements of capital of Spain who have been appointed by UNESCO as intangible heritage of humanity and of the applications which are submitted to the next meeting next month to celebrate the institution UN cultural: the "Feast of patios" and the Feast of the "Mare de Deu" in Algemesí.
Also attended by representatives of UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture, ICOMOS, numerous regional governments and municipalities, and institutions working in safeguarding these intangible assets, as well as Latin American representation.
It has also made special mention of best practices for safeguarding intangible heritage in Spain, some of which UNESCO has recognized the interest and activities in disseminating this heritage, as well as nominations for the "International Register of good practices."
From HUERMUR has become a special defense of the "Council of Wise Men" as a secular institution worthy of survival, dissemination and protection, but for this very reason has held that "the nomination as a World Heritage Site can not be a simple recognition but must be supervised and monitored by the government to fulfill its role and responsibilities let not miss one of the oldest living institutions in the Region of Murcia ".
Similarly, HUERMUR held to be inconsistent statement maintaining the BIC and the appointment of UNESCO with the current policy is carried out in Murcia ditches and landscape the garden, without the Protection of movable heritage assets and buildings that support the intangible asset and the same environments, as has been seen this week with the conflict around the wheel and the road Ă‘ora projected by the city of Murcia where he is currently the aqueduct BIC Rueda.
From HUERMUR was handed to the representative of the Ministry of Culture - Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain a dossier on the current state of the Council of Wise Men and its associated assets, as well as recent events surrounding the Board of Landowners Huerta de Murcia, institution that is part of the Council.
In the dossier is transmitted social concern for the state of the Huerta de Murcia, the water network, and the rich historical heritage, cultural and natural harbors, and not in the best condition possible.
As reflected the conclusions of the Congress, made public by the scientific committee thereof, maintained by HUERMUR line at the different sessions are necessary:
- "Demand for rigorous compliance with the commitments expressed in the bid documents."
- "Recognition of the importance of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the sustainability of our identity and our environment."
Similarly, HUERMUR seeks to highlight the inclusion of some recommendations in the committee's conclusions, lines of work already underway in Murcia in several pilots, including:
- "Initiate actions to the inclusion of intangible cultural heritage in the school curriculum in response to the ICH Convention of UNESCO"
- "To recognize and encourage the participation of local communities in safeguarding their heritage."
As you can see from these points, whose photographs of findings are included in the website HUERMUR, Congress has served to highlight the importance of social participation in the effective protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage and the need for rigor in the competent regional governments and the custodians of the assets to fulfill its commitments to UNESCO in each application.
In this sense, at various times of the congress was reminded that appointments are for life, but the UNESCO heritage regularly revised every few years later to give the title, and then, in the case of the Council of Wise Men , the regional administration and the Board of Landowners will have to demonstrate that it has met all the commitments that were sent to UNESCO and documents contained in the website of the international institution.
Therefore, from HUERMUR has maintained that "can not return to producing events such as the Oliver Mill or the destruction of traditional channels, and that you have to retake and public trial in the spaces BIC statement indicates, that is, the Plenary Hall of the City of Murcia. "
Finally, HUERMUR has established various partnerships with organizations around the country, both nonprofit and public administration, strengthening its efforts to publicize the Huerta de Murcia as an important place of Spanish cultural heritage, as well as the exchange of experiences and initiatives in defense of the heritage, landscape and traditions.
