PSOE spokesman, Pedro Lopez, propose the creation of a commission to establish the procedure for citizens and associations can decide on municipal expenditures and investments for the year 2012
The Municipal Socialist Group spokesperson, Pedro Lopez, today announced at a press conference defending a motion in Parliament to be held tomorrow Thursday to launch a public participation process with a view to developing the next municipal budgets.
"Participatory budgeting is a good tool to advance transparency and open the management of a municipality to citizens who are demanding more and more presence in politics," argues Lopez.
In this sense, the PSOE spokesman says that there are experiences in other cities like Seville, Albacete and San Sebastian where citizens and associations can make proposals and provide feedback on which projects should prioritize a Consistory each year, which certainly increase the effectiveness of municipal management.
"We must move forward in this field and now social networks opens up new possibilities for citizen participation that we should not miss," he insists.
Thus, Lopez will propose the creation of a commission in the presence of all political forces to establish the basis of a call for participatory budgeting for next year 2012, with the aim of defining what are the steps and mechanisms to achieve greater possible involvement by civil society in municipal management.
Murcia Social Council Meeting
Also, the Socialist spokesman also requested to convene the Board of the City of Murcia, a body that was established in 2004 and since then has not met even once.
"In the context of the current economic difficulties it is necessary to meet the citizen participation council, composed of representatives of economic organizations, social, professional and neighborhood in the municipality, to analyze what are the projects and the guidelines that should guide the output from the local crisis. "
Award of grants
On the other hand, Councilwoman Andrea Garries morning plenary session will take the initiative for the Council to develop regulations establishing objective criteria for awarding grants from the various municipal boards.
"We believe that the criteria should be the same in all neighborhoods and districts to avoid the arbitrariness that leads to bad practices, so submit them to debate the need to establish a common standard of consensus among all political groups through a single call, "said the mayor of the PSOE, who also said:" This measure will help to increase transparency in the management of municipal boards.
