They are located in the gardens of the Paseo de Garay, lieutenant Flomesta Paseo, Gutierrez Mellado, Plaza Circular and Pintor Pedro Flores

The Department of Environment continues to work for the red palm weevil has the least impact on the municipality.

The Park Service and Gardens has recovered in recent weeks, a total of 60 palm trees that have not been able to resist the plague despite having been treated with insecticides.

These new palms are located in the gardens of the Paseo de Garay (eight), Paseo Lieutenant Flomesta (fifteen), Gutierrez Mellado (fourteen), Plaza Circular (thirteen) and Pintor Pedro Flores (ten).

Among the selected species are Washingtonia robusta (9), Phoenix dactylifera (24), Butia capitata (12), Livistonias (7) and Trachycarpus (8).

All palm trees have a height of between 1.5 and five meters.

The Department works continuously to combat the red palm weevil monitoring and spraying the 8,000 palm trees in the municipality.

The Department of Environment combines traditional methods with insecticides that are newer to combat this plague.

Thus, it is being used by Endo insecticide treatments to combat the scourge.

This technique involves an injection of insecticide into the palm itself, spreading the sap and kill the weevil when you bite their tissues.

It also acts as the palm tree is already infected and is even effective against the larvae.

Furthermore, it is implementing the placement of fixed systems in higher palm to optimize each treatment and is testing the use of organic products such as nematodes, tiny organisms that, when applied to the palm weevil kill parasites and without damage to the plant or environment.

Councilwoman Adela Martinez-Cacho has stated that "we are making a significant effort by the City Council to protect and save the palms of the municipality. So also asked residents of the municipality that have palm trees in their gardens to keep them, preventing transmission through periodic treatments, and avoid pruning in spring and summer as freshly cut branches attract adult red palm weevil.
