The Delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Charo Quesada, and Councilwoman Environment of the City of Murcia, Adela Martinez-Cache, today presided over the ceremony official opening of the environmental recovery of the Rambla del Puerto as it passes through the hamlet of El Palmar (Murcia), comprising a stretch of 3.1 kilometers, which has made environmental restoration of the channel and partner integration and recreation in the area.
The performance has been framed within the hydrological restoration measures forest regeneration, environmental protection and restoration actions to be implemented in areas with risk of generating avenues.
These measures are included in the priority 53 .- Prevention of risks, Axis 3 Environment, Natural Environment, Water Resources and Risk Prevention ERDF Operational Programme in the region of Murcia 2007-2013, the total investment in performance has exceeded 1.1 million euros.
The works carried out by the Confederation have adjusted to environmental criteria to develop and pursue in natural risk prevention in episodes of cold drop, facilitating drainage and improving the hydraulic capacity of the channel of the wadi.
The section where he has acted in the Rambla del Puerto is between the vicinity of the sale of La Paloma and MU-603 road.
The main objective of this action has been to stabilize the bed and slopes of the ravine, and protect against the actions of erosion produced by high speed and energy of the mixture of water runoff and dissolved materials from the itself erosion, as pernicious and devastating effect on this basin typically torrential regime and the Mediterranean, thus minimizing the damage to the surfaces along the banks of the gully, damage caused by the effect of moving a channel boulevard that " moves "in each heavy rain occurs.
To achieve this, there has been a selective cleaning of the channel, moving the priority habitats found, a subsequent clearing of the channel slope profiling and stabilization thereof by gabion works, bed protection using riprap and finishing coat with a general stabilization on the basis of native plantings.
Integrating social and recreational
The actions described have been complemented by other actions aimed at closer integration and the promenade of the town near El Palmar, providing the margins of the promenade of two recreational compounds, one Biosalud a circuit with a picnic area and some areas reserved for different activities such as "pins huertanos" chess or ping pong, and another for another picnic area near the existing school, press both spaces protected by a path that runs along the left bank of the wadi.
