The Romea Theatre enters its final phase with the testing of electrical installations and the recruitment of all stage equipment (07/09/2011)

They have already successfully completed the first screening of electrical installations, lifts and air conditioning.

Technical Project Office has authorized the hiring of providing audiovisual facilities and stage equipment.

The installation of new fire curtain was hired a month ago and the firm now addresses the finishing touches on the facade.

The recovery of the Teatro Romea, whose works have been extended for four years after the discovery of concealed serious flaws in its structure, has entered its final phase, which requires by law to test all electrical installations, audiovisual and security before opening final.

The discovery of these deficiencies has resolved before the opening of the historic building, making the Comprehensive Plan for Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Teatro Romea in one of the most ambitious recovery of this legendary property that has undertaken the city of Murcia in the last years.

Two issues forced the extension of this project.

First, the property itself that, over the past two centuries, has suffered several casualties, among them two large fires.

And second, because the initial project has been continually expanded as the work progressed, largely undiscovered structural deficiencies that remained hidden for reforms of dubious quality.

The project, whose amount is 6 million euros, is financed equally by the city of Murcia, the regional government, CajaMurcia and Caja Mediterráneo.

These three are the phases of project execution:

Companies that have addressed the rehabilitation - UTE-Azuche Trimtor and have already applied to the City of Murcia receipt and delivery of the works for the third phase contract, the more complex, which includes interior renovation and installation of air conditioning .

The reception of these works is scheduled to take place during the second half of September, once they provided various documents and certificates that permit the acceptance thereof by the municipal supervisors of the Department of Urban and Infrastructure Quality.

In the Theatre have already successfully completed service testing of electrical installations, lifts and air conditioning, in order to obtain the required administrative authorizations, which allow their operation.

Once this phase in the coming days will start testing the service for motorized bars and other facilities Romea comb, which will involve the placement of stage, curtains, lighting bars and other scenic material, under the supervision of the direction of the Theatre.

Meanwhile, the Technical Project Office has already delivered to the Service Contract documentation for provision of audiovisual facilities and stage equipment has also been monitored by the Department of Theatre and the cultural managers for hire.

Is expected by the technicians of the council simultaneous initiation of the repair of the stairs, works also hired and start implementation immediately.

At this stage of the project, only remains to execute the installation of new fire curtain to meet the requirements of the document if the Spanish Technical Code, more demanding than the previous fire regulations that meets the present, to ensure greater security to users.

This facility, essential, was hired during the month of August.

Also be carried out by the first contractor-Pegiro-touch up paint for the facade that will remove both the scaffolding and construction fences.

These have been the project phases:

1.

Conservation of facades, roofs and facilities

Award Date: September 19, 2007.

Contract award: October 5, 2007.

Construction began: November 19, 2007.

Approved budget: 979,764 euros.

Budget allocated: 904,764 euros.

The first phase consisted of works, and also the first where technicians found new deficiencies which there was no evidence it was impossible to foresee, because they were hidden defects of the property.

After undertaking the restoration of the facade, where it has been necessary to restore various parts and ornaments of stone, covered the discovery of the expanding radio advised action.

As we discovered the roof of the theater, the poor condition of the structure recommended a further intervention, which caused the delay in the timetable for completion.

2.

Comb

Company: Ferrovial Agroman.

Award Date: November 26, 2008.

Construction began: March 16, 2009.

Approved budget: EUR 2 million.

Budget allocation: 1.2 million euros.

The age of the comb stage and materials necessitated its replacement by a structure adapted to current needs.

The budget for this phase of the project amounted to a total of 2 million.

The comb is woven, as a grid containing the cylinders, pulleys or sheaves, cherry or strings and other instruments designed to handle various sets and scenic devices.

From it hung the different elements of the backstage, lights, sheaves, cherry in the back of the theater, at the top of the loom.

The comb Romea is situated at 17.90 meters.

From there it suspends the lifting machinery, and from it the props, as well as lighting systems required for each performance.

The work has included the removal of the current comb made of wood, and building a new structure that covers the entire walkable of the stage of the theater.

Within the stage equipment including stage machinery, lighting, professional sound and communications.

3.

Internal Reform

Company: Trimtor and Azuche.

Award Date: July 1, 2009.

Construction began: January 12, 2010.

Approved budget: 3.7 million euros.

Budget allocation: 2.4 million euros.

The third phase of the reform project was inside the building.

Masonry work and painting included the remodeling of the left side access area, lockers, stairwells and access control.

It has also reformed the piano lounge area, boiler and part of the dressing rooms and orchestra rails, boxes, stalls and paradise.

Regarding the left side of the Romea, as you enter through the main entrance, to discover the false ceilings of two floors, the architects found a weak structure, where the beams still remained burned in one of the two fires suffered by the theater .

Also found that other beams were bent or cracked, forcing additional work to clean up the area.

While the project was adapted to new needs, the works were extended to the creation of some toilets, and existing ones renovated and painted all the rooms.

As the pavement was removed and the carpet existing platform to place a new dual-stage solid oak and a retardant carpeting in both the stalls and in the boxes, stalls and paradise.

The existing 560 seats have been restored, varnished and upholstered chairs while the 125 normal and 125 banked seats have been replaced by another similar.

Finally, it has carried out air-conditioning throughout the building.

This facility has respected the uniqueness of the building to avoid structural alterations.
