The Municipal Socialist Group spokesperson, Pedro López, proposes peatonalice the Gran Via in the conclusion of the 'Car Free Day', which was held just within a month, on 22 September as a pilot scheme which would mean implementation of this measure included in the PSOE's electoral program and supported by the downtown merchants of Murcia city to move to a more friendly, designed for citizens and not for cars.
Lopez believes that the Mobility Week is the perfect setting to experience the host of this measure on the other hand, is not as outlandish or unheard of in the city since the Great Way is closed to traffic to a transition of the parades the holidays and the Easter processions so that alternative routes are already designed.
Socialist spokesman noted that the proposal raises the PSOE make the Gran Via in a pedestrian priority to allow the passage of public transport, cycle lanes, taxis, emergency vehicles, loading and access to private and public parking garages.
According to Lopez, the initiative has been welcomed by traders in the city who see it as a way to revitalize downtown and boost small businesses, passing through the lower hours suffering the consequences of the implementation of large shopping centers on the outskirts of the city.
In this sense, the PSOE spokesman stressed the need to open a participatory process with residents and traders in the vicinity of the Gran Vía to study the feasibility of this project and it highlights the opportunity provided by the 'Car Free Day 'to check on an experimental application.
