The diplomat Arias will be the preacher of Murcia Fair 2011 in a ceremony that will take place on September 2 at the Plenary Hall of the City Council.
Arias accepted the invitation by the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel Botia Chamber, to deliver the speech which opened the festivities after the descent of the Virgin and the opening of the precincts of the Gardens and FICA, will take place the previous evening.
Although born in Almeria, tying Arias to Murcia has always been a constant in his life since moving to our city to study law.
Since then, despite the diplomatic service has led him to reside outside of Spain much of his life, this does not prevent him from maintaining a close relationship with Murcia.
After joining the diplomatic service in 1967, Arias began working in the embassies of Spain in Bolivia, Algeria and Portugal.
He was director general of the Diplomatic Information Office of Foreign Affairs with various governments, and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of State for Cooperation.
His practice also led him to become UN Ambassador and Consul General in Los Angeles.
Besides his extensive diplomatic experience, Arias was General Manager of Real Madrid between 1991 and 1993 and professor of the Complutense and Carlos III de Madrid.
Author of three books - "Three Myths of Real Madrid," "Memoirs of a diplomat" and "backroom diplomacy," the latter in collaboration with Eva Celada-Arias is a regular contributor to several national media and regional including the Truth.
