A study by the University of Murcia, conducted by Professor Millán Escriche Mercedes has called for greater attention to accessibility for disabled tourism, whilst acknowledging the progress made in this field in recent years.
The report Escriche Millán, professor at the School of Tourism, said that "currently there is a greater awareness of the rights of these groups, but we must also recognize that there has been a solution to all problems."
The research also indicates that promote accessibility is not an easy operation, but adds that "these barriers should never be an excuse for dereliction of duty to act, which undertake law, conventions, plans and programs."
"The bottom line, says Professor Miller, is to be making investments and mitigating, as far as possible, the handicaps that prevent the development of tourism to certain social groups affected by various disabilities, but are still insufficient."
The study highlights the actions taken to facilitate access to different beaches in the Region of Murcia, as the Eagles, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcazares, among others.
As a specific action, highlights the focus on the case by the hotel "Entremares" La Manga del Mar Menor, which earned him the prize "Telefónica Ability Awards," a distinction created in Ireland to promote relationships among people with disability and society.
This analysis of Mercedes Millan is published in the latest issue of the magazine "Grand Tour", published by the School of Tourism at the University of Murcia and runs itself.
