"Project Haiti", which has developed TECNOS research group belonging to the Chair of Architectural Structures of the School of Architecture and Building Engineering of the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM) in collaboration with the NGO Action Fire has been selected to represent Spain in Sustainable Architecture Biennale 'Green Building Challenge, to be held in Helsinki (Finland) next November.

The project, which has as principal investigator with the director of the School of Architecture, Catholic University, Juan Roldan, and architects and teachers Javier Zueco, Lorenzo Thomas and Carlos Gonzalez as researchers, has constructed two hundred safe houses in Haiti, which temporarily have risen from the rubble.
They are treated and grouped into polypropylene raffia bags that form the structure of the shelters, providing greater flexibility.
Similarly, the houses are made of wooden beams covered by metal, which serve as a roof.
According to Juan Roldan has said, "the project aims primarily to mitigate the deadly effects in the population can be posed by torrential rains, hurricanes and earthquakes that hit the area systematically, using inexpensive materials."
Therefore, the Catholic University of Murcia faces "Project Haiti" from three aspects: the design and implementation of the 200 shelters, availability to travel to Haiti to inspect the site, its materials and the specific situation of refugees from the point of technical, and inspection of various buildings mainly related to the Daughters of Charity, located in Cité Soleil, one of the poorest areas of Haiti.
