A total of 35 projects have been submitted to the contest of ideas for defining the center of Murcia medieval interpretation of the archaeological site of San Esteban.
Once the registration period closed, the Jury shall conduct the review of documentation and, after correction of defects in material, made public the list of allowed for submission of technical proposals.
Going into this second phase, applicants will have a period of sixty calendar days from the date of publication of the list of admitted and excluded in the contractor's profile.
The Director General of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets, Enrique Ujaldón, welcomed "the broad participation in spite of the demands and rigor required."
This is a contest of ideas, he added, "where the emphasis has been the quality of the teams."
The purpose of this competition is the selection of six integrated proposals that define the best solutions related to spatial aspects, architectural, archaeological and museological restoration and as appropriate for the archaeological remains of all San Esteban, in the context of a interpretation center of the medieval Murcia.
According to the rules, the jury will award a maximum of six awards endowed with 8640 Euros each.
The contest may be declared void only if the jury unanimously consider that none of the projects presented is sufficiently satisfactory for the objectives of the competition.
Participating teams must have a degree in History and an expert on restoration, both of proven experience.
This in the words of Henry Ujaldón, was "indispensable, as this project will provide technical and professional challenge."
The maximum amount of works and proposed actions, including architectural, development, performance archaeological and museological restoration of the remains, and without taking into account the costs for the center equipment and installation of the permanent exhibition, will be 20 million, which may not be exceeded in any case for projects submitted to the contest.
The jury is composed of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets or his delegate, the mayor of Murcia, an architect appointed by the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain, an architect appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and an architect appointed by the Official College of Architects of Murcia.
The jury also form an archaeologist appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, an architect appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on a proposal from the Committee of Experts of the archaeological remains of St. Stephen, a representative of the Community General Intervention region and an adviser to the Legal Service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The jury will be assisted by a technical committee.

The center should be approached with total accessibility criteria for people with reduced mobility.
