Robotics, video and intelligent buildings in the Second Summer School of the Faculty of Informatics, University of Murcia (14/06/2011)

The new technologies have brought about a revolutionary change in society in recent years: banking, instant messaging, email and more diverse arrangements can be made easily from the personal computer.

Manuel Campos Martinez, Associate Dean of External Relations, Faculty of Computer Science and director of the Second Summer School of the Faculty of Computer Science Campus International Mar-Mare Nostrum, says that "many of the amenities of today are enjoyed by information, without our being aware of it. "

The organizers of the initiative, aimed at secondary school students from 3 of the ESO, ensure that is available to all students who have concern about the technologies.

The course offers an overview of the most important new technologies: computer engineering, software engineering, computer networks and artificial intelligence, but "always applied and fun way, and also of course in a practical way ".

In this sense, students have the opportunity to know the role that mathematics plays in computer games, and check that "when you move a doll of a game, everything is based on mathematics," and know what holds a computer for operation.

In short: "We want to demystify the computer, which students really know what is computer science, but all in a relaxed and fun way."

According to course coordinator ensures Jose Santa Lozano, "for this second edition we have attempted to identify the preferences of the students and have adjusted the agenda to them."

"Our intention," he continues, is that students entering the computer engineering, and understand that offers much more than purely office automation applications, for example, applied to an elevator or a smart home. "

"Ultimately," he continues, that's for cover as the concept of computer in existence today, providing a realistic view of software engineering and its applications to identify and promote, at the same time, future vocations. "

The course will feature workshops and activities devoted to robotics, video games or smart houses, among other issues.

The activity will take place at the Faculty of Informatics, University of Murcia, open in the morning, between 27 June and 8 July.
