The Rector of the University of Murcia has expressed condolences over the death of writer Ernesto Sabato, who was awarded an honorary doctorate from that institution, a charge that was invested during the ceremony held at the Merced campus on 22 May 1989.
Representing the university has sent condolences to the families of the Argentine writer, who at the investiture ceremony referred not only to his literary vocation, but also to his passion for science.
He also had words of affection and admiration for the Spanish language, by stating that "It is amazing that today can speak in this corner with the same language as me, a River Plate of Italian descent, he spoke for some time before the Indians of Quito."
The author of "The Tunnel", which was awarded an honorary doctorate at the ceremony where he received the same distinction Gonzalo Sobejano, concluded his speech with a reference to his nurse Murcia, Hope, and he sang coplillas.
"Murcia, for me, always hope," said Sabato as the climax of his speech.
