The University of Murcia submit a campaign to save and optimize energy use in its facilities, within the activities to be conducted in Green Week, which will be held on the campus of Espinardo between 5 and 8 April.
Among the measures to be taken, the Vice Chancellor for Economic and Infrastructure, Antonio Calvo-Flores, cited the optimal use of elevators, the temperature regulation in certain units or installing energy efficient lighting.
On this last point, the Vice Chancellor announced that they are conducting tests to reduce night lighting on campus and off the lights Espinardo unnecessary plans in addition to other cost saving measures already implemented as the closure of buildings during the holidays initiatives or contraction of current expenditure.
The closure of certain units, as adopted by the University last summer, Calvo-Flores said the solution is not "desirable", but in times of "financial stress like the present must be prioritized and closing a savings of 50,000 euros a week. "
"It added the rector of the university to maintain its level of activity and the services it provides in essence, without compromising quality."
All these measures will be announced during the third edition of Green Week, the conference with the University of Murcia promote and encourage environmental values ​​among the university community and society Murcia.
The activities, which were presented today at the Chancellor, will be divided into three main areas: renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental management.
For those days a fair is scheduled on renewable energy devices, a bird banding, exhibitions, lectures and workshops on natural cosmetics, healthy cocktail making and repairing bicycles.
Also a debate about nuclear energy, a guided tour of Moratalla natural environment and a film series on the environment, among other activities.
Green Week will present the Environmental Management Plan for 2011 at the University, and the program on Healthy Eating and Top Road, actions of the educational institution to improve the quality of the diets of the cafeterias.
Coinciding with the International Year of Chemistry and Forests, Green Week provides for actions to promote habits of respect to the environment, such as reforestation of trees.
