The Mayor claims that the National Government now proposes measures that municipalities have been developing for years.
The Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy presented by the Chamber of Murcia in November has led to energy savings of more than 155 GWh / year and have failed to deliver 78,271 tons of CO2 annually.
It also has an economic effect, since the reduction of the energy bill will save 17.5 million euros a year.
The 39 measures and actions implemented affect public lighting, transportation or municipal fleet of vehicles, among other sectors
Mayor House presented in November 2010 Energy Action Plan Sustainable Murcia, containing guidelines to follow to achieve a 40% reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases until 2020.
39 measures and actions included in the document are already underway and its implementation has meant:
- Energy savings of 155 GWh / year, of which 72 GWh came from the use of renewable energy and other energy efficiency measures and savings
- They have stopped issuing more than 78,271 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year
- The measures represent a saving of 7 million liters of fuel per year for the municipality
- Involve a cost savings of 17.5 million euros.
The Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy describes the specific steps that must be done in the municipality to achieve a more rational use of energy by encouraging their savings and boosting renewable energy.
The Plan will generate a total saving of 1770.78 GWh / year in 2020, in terms of emissions, means avoiding over tCO2/yr 557,204.94.
The cumulative energy savings provided by the plan through 2020 totals more than 7,000 GWh.
Some of the most important measures that have reduced energy expenditure in Murcia are replacing conventional LED traffic lights, measures to reduce intensity and consumption of street lighting or local production of electricity, among other actions.
