The Department of Tourism is committed to the promotion of Murcia as a congress city and renew the cooperation agreement with the Association of Collaborating Members of Congress Office of the City of Murcia.
The Convention Bureau of the Municipality of Murcia was founded in 1998 with the participation of public and private companies to promote Murcia as the seat of Congress.
The partners of the Office include hotels, restaurants, bars, travel agencies, advertising agencies and event management, taxis, rental cars, etc.
The Office, which is based in the Annex at the Auditorio Victor Villegas, is responsible for the coordination of supply and demand of city services, development of specific technical dossiers, organization of reconnaissance visits to Murcia, transport discounts for Congress, institutional and technical support to the organizers of the event, delivery of promotional material and general information on Murcia, broadcast in the media and nominations for national conferences held in Murcia.
The Governing Board has approved a grant of 60,000 euros to develop its work.
For 2011 is scheduled to be held in Murcia conferences and congresses of Architects, National Conference of Teachers, Integrated Child Dentistry Congress, National Congress of Human Genetics, National Congress of the Society of Geriatric and Gerontological Nursing, Physical Therapy Congress, Congress Spanish Society of Biophysics, Congress of the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Congress of the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine and the National Congress of Law and Health, among others.
In 2009, 1,194 conferences and meetings held in the city, attended by 145,924 people, and economic impact of 38.18 million euros.
Since the creation of the Office of Conferences were held in the town 7,000 meetings and conventions, with 960,000 participants, which has generated an economic impact of 313.21 million euros.
