The Governing Council has given approval to award a grant of 196,267 euros to the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno de Murcia to carry out the final phase of the restoration of the passage of 'The Last Supper' by sculptor Francisco Salzillo.
This support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will allow the completion of the rehabilitation that began after Easter 2010.
The sculpture of the Last Supper, which Salzillo made in 1761 to replace the one supplied by his father, Nicholas Salzillo, in 1700, is a collection of primarily a compositional system structured around the dramatic scenery of the Passion.
It highlights the treatment of the attitudes and artistic expression, which form a landmark study of gestures and anatomical features.
The throne is a part of the carver and engraver Antonio Carrión Murcia Valverde, made half a century ago to the guild home.
The passage will show, once completed the restoration work in the procession next Friday, and will participate in August in Madrid in the Via Crucis organized during the World Youth Days.
