The City Council willful default threatens the economy of more than 200 suppliers (15/02/2011)

Socialist spokesman Alfonso Navarro, claims that during the third quarter of 2010 entered in the register of the Consistory some 661 bills worth more providers of 3,800,000 euros were not even processed during a period exceeding three months, failing thus the Contracts Act which requires public sector pay these amounts within 55 days following the submission of invoices

Socialist Party spokesman, Alfonso Navarro, regrets the willful default of the City of Murcia and the resulting damage of this practice on suppliers and small businesses who regularly work with local government.

"The bills come, they stay in the drawers and after three months is not processed," said Navarro, who reported that more than 200 suppliers are affected by this practice during the third quarter of 2010 (from July 7 to September 30).

The CP legislation fails twice

And is that during this time period, the Town Hall wrote in his log about 661 bills worth more providers of 3,800,000 euros without being processed for a period exceeding three months, so that local government is failing, PSOE spokesman complaint, the Law on Public Sector Contracts obligated to pay these amounts within 55 days following the submission of such invoices and, therefore, to pay interest on late payments.

Similarly, Navarro claims that the PP is in breach of municipal flagrant and intentional Law 15/2010 of 5 July that provides for measures to combat late payment of government in which the fifth article requires the council to provide, in addition to a of bills, to prepare a quarterly report containing a list of unpaid bills for three months to be submitted to the plenary of the corporation, other legal obligation which obviously are not being met.

Finally, Navarro points out that the final budget for the City Council in 2010 was 496 million euros, of which 314 were spent, a run of 63%, having paid some 237 million to suppliers, so that by the end of December last years will be 77.5 million euros, over 25% of commitments.
