The role of Shakespeare in the renovation of Spanish theater in the period between the loss of the colonies in 1898 at the beginning of the Civil War is the main conclusion of the doctoral dissertation at the University of Murcia by Juan Francisco Cerdá Martínez.
The author, who has examined the relationship between playwright and actors, directors and entrepreneurs of the time, argues in his research that Shakespeare was part of the "complex and limited renewal of the period drama" and served at a time "of practical link between the Spanish and the avant-garde stage of continental Europe. "
The thesis was directed by Professor Ángel-Luis Pujante, obtained excellent cum laude.
