The Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, chaired the meeting of the City Commission for Gender Equality, which has brought together nearly two dozen members.
The meeting served to address issues such as:
- Exhibition and data analysis services to victims of domestic violence, by the municipal team (EMAVI).
- Presentation of the Programme of awareness and training activities organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Equality Policies.
- Communication of offers from other organizations and institutions.
The commission has also served to inform members of the various actions and resources that are carried out both by the Directorate General of Prevention of Gender Violence and Child Protection of the Ministry of Justice of the CARM, such as Point resource coordination of protection orders and the unique record of handling cases.
Since the municipal social services, it is proposed that measures of training and awareness on prevention of violence, are directed more to the collective, in which according to statistics, a higher incidence of cases, such as the immigrant population and people in age groups 30 to 40 years.
By the municipal youth service, has unveiled a new prevention program aimed at youth clubs and schools, as has been noted that gender violence is becoming a problem among young couples.
The Federation of Women's Centers of Murcia also reported that next Thursday, November 25, will be a theatrical performance to denounce the violence, in the Plaza Fuensanta Murcia city.
The City Commission of Gender Equality, established in 2004, by agreement of the Local Government Board, has among its objectives:
a) Combating Gender-based violence especially in the municipality of Murcia to eradicate all forms and manifestations.
b) Raise awareness and inform the population of Murcia on the causes and consequences of violence against women as well as resources and services for prevention and care to victims.
c) Propose measures and institutional and citizen action to prevent violence and care for the needs of women and daughters / os who suffer.
d) Promote and coordinate local activities aimed at care for the victims of this violence.
e) Propose and assist in the development and implementation of management protocols, in coordination with other institutions / agencies in the field, especially with the Courts of Violence on Women, forces and state security bodies, the Institute of Women and health emergency services.
f) Encourage and develop cooperation between the various women's associations at the municipal level and advise them in their efforts to support women who need it, facilitating networking and mutual support groups.
g) Develop and disseminate research, data and activities on violence against women.
