The Socialist mayor of San Sebastian, Odon Elorza, and candidate for mayor of Murcia, Pedro López, shared this morning a meeting with the councilors of the Municipal Group and members of the Municipal Executive of the PSOE headquarters in Murcia.
The candidate for mayor of Murcia, Pedro Lopez, said that many of the initiatives of San Sebastián are applicable to the city of Murcia, in particular those related to public transport and the promotion of sustainable mobility with such innovative ideas as freight bicycle.
In this sense, Odon Elorza noted that widespread use of bicycles in a city like San Sebastian the first thing you have is "political."
Thus, Pedro Lopez stressed that "the bike in Murcia is very far from being widespread, there is no real policy on its implementation and are just marketing operations for where are more bicycles is in the stores."
The socialist candidate has stated that "the City Council has launched a road but lacks measures for cyclists traveling in Murcia with greater security and thus will be encouraging the widespread use and the number of citizens using bicycles .
The Socialists have also been the experience of San Sebastian in participation, since the Basque capital is one of the pioneers in promoting participatory budgeting, where people move to the City which investments should be prioritized.
Lopez noted that the PSOE will pose for the municipality of Murcia a great commitment to citizen participation and emphasized that citizens should have greater voice in public life.
During the meeting, Odon Elorza has set major policies that have led to San Sebastian to become a landmark at the municipal level since coming into office in 1991.
He has also insisted that the City Council can lead the development of a city.
Thus, explained the functioning of the municipal public company Fomento de San Sebastián aimed at enhancing economic activity from the strategic sectors of the city as the audiovisual industry, renewable energy and innovation.
Finally, Odon Elorza has highlighted the project of 'The House of Peace' that has become a major social and cultural center that revolves around respect for human rights.
