Murcia University hosted the formal establishment of the Local Studies Department of the Foundation "Centre for Historical Studies and Research Local Murcia, named the honorary emeritus professor Juan Torres Fontes educational institution.

Torres Fontes was accompanied by a large representation of the cultural, social and academic capital of Murcia, which met today in the House of the Faculty of Letters at a ceremony presided over the rector of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Cobacho .

The event involved Juan Torres Fontes and the director of the Chair, Professor Francisco Chacón, who announced as activities under a national meeting of Local History in 2012 and the convening of a national award of this discipline.

The inaugural lecture of the Chair corresponded to Professor of Medieval History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid Miguel Ángel Sloper, who delivered a lecture on "The Castilian cities in the Middle Ages."

The chair is promoted with the support of the Regional Assembly and the University of Murcia and is sponsored by the Foundation Cajamurcia.
