The Olympic Solidarity Study, an initiative in which various public and private companies contribute 1 Euro per hour of study in classrooms reserved for this purpose, the proceeds earmarked for the rehabilitation of four schools in Haiti.
The catastrophe in Haiti has meant that, unlike previous editions in which each country opted for a different project, this one most of the participants (Spain, Britain, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia , Lithuania, France, Slovenia, Ivory Coast, Burundi and Kenya) focus on the Haiti project, including physical and psychological support for school rehabilitation.
The Vice Chancellor of University Extension, Francisco Guillermo Diaz, announced today that Convalescence University of Murcia has enabled study rooms solidarity in the General Library and the Library Espinardo Nebrija (campus of Mercy), which form part of the 19 rooms distributed in six municipalities in the region.
The Vice Chancellor said that from the beginning the University has supported students and infrastructure this activity that brings together two important objectives for an educational institution: the solidarity and the promotion of study. "
The Olympics began in 2003 in the city of Logroño and since then has experienced continued growth, shifting from the five thousand euros collected for 436 students in the first edition, to 312,000 euros and 35,000 participants in 2009.
For the 2010 edition, the projections are 300 rooms in 15 countries, and in the Murcia region is expected to reach 300,000 hours of study provided by 3,000 students.
The Olympiad is organized by NGOs for Development Cooperation, International Cooperation and ACTEC.
