On 19 November the International Day of the Rights of the Child and as usual the City Council held a plenary Child Murcia, in which students from 5th and 6th grade will be the stars.
In total 173 children who will participate functions of the Mayor and Councillors.
Four schools in the municipality participate in the activity.
The Councillor for Education and Youth, María Dolores Sánchez, held this morning a meeting with school principals.
Participating schools are:
-José Martínez Tornel (Patiño), with the participation of 45 children in grades 5 and Primary 6.
"Nicolás de las Peñas (Murcia), with the participation of 25 children in Primary 6.
-Mirasierra (Torreagüera), with the participation of 53 children in grades 5 and Primary 6.
-San Pablo (Murcia), involving 50 children in Primary 6.
On this occasion, the week is dedicated to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Child, a United Nations treaty and the first law on the rights of the child and the child legally binding, mandatory for States that have ratified it.
It brings together civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, reflecting different situations in which you can find children and youth around the world.
The Convention has 54 articles which recognize that all children under 18 are entitled to full physical, mental and social and freely express their opinions.
Murcia City Council holds a commemorative week with a series of awareness and the House of Children.
Through these activities, which require previous work in the classroom, it encourages youngsters to think and reflect on the importance of compliance with these rights for themselves and future generations.
The representatives of the four centers this year invited to participate in plenary Children have received educational materials to work with children in class.
