Miguel Ángel Cámara explains the key measures promoted in Murcia to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.

Improving mobility and the promotion of energy efficiency measures are two priority areas in which municipalities can implement actions to steer the city toward a sustainable future.
Therefore, the City of Murcia, through its Local Energy Agency, singular attention is paid to those incorporated in the Local Strategy to Fight Climate Change, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and the Bicycle Master Plan.
Based on these aspects has the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, to intervene in the CIVITAS Forum I of Spain and Portugal, closed today in Burgos, who has been invited to participate in his capacity as Chair of the Eurocities Mobility Forum.
Also attended the event the mayor of Burgos, the President of the Junta de Castilla y León and representatives of the municipalities of Porto and Lisbon, among others.
House has outlined measures to improve mobility as key to achieving sustainable cities and to promote the fight against climate change.
Among the actions that the City of Murcia is already underway in terms of mobility and public transportation, noted for example the use of biodiesel in bus fleet, the promotion of cycling trails road network, introduction of the tram, sustainable urban mobility plan, municipal subsidies to citizens and businesses to purchase electric vehicles that use alternative fuels or tax breaks in their enrollment.
The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan will save 49,500 tonnes of CO2 a year.
All these actions highlight the importance of mobility as a key field of action of the Strategy to Fight Climate Change Action Plan and the Sustainable Energy team municipal government is promoting the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions emissions by 20% by 2020.
In the past two years have implemented 95 of the 114 measures that make up the Local Strategy, which represents a 83% compliance with the plan and makes it possible for Murcia now is saving 88,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
