The need to implement health programs directed specifically to optimize the quality of life in old people's homes in the municipality of Murcia has been demonstrated by the doctoral dissertation at the University of Murcia by Martha Cecilia Leon Garzon.
This research, conducted in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University, says that users of day care centers show a better perception of health and quality of life than received in nursing homes.
For the realization of this thesis, the author analyzed a sample comprising a total of two hundred people, with an average age of 74 years, attending day care centers or live in homes in the municipality of Murcia.
The results show that more than fifty percent of these people "maintain a healthy and functional" and that health problems are the most common vision problems which reach 66 percent, and hypertension, which stood at 38 percent.
The study also indicates that there are no problems with depression, anxiety or cognitive impairment.
The thesis was conducted by Professor Antonia Aurelia Gomez and Aurelio Luna.
