The "Footprints of Barraca", devised by Professor of Theatre at the University of Murcia César Oliva and promoted by the State Society for Cultural Commemorations, has won the UNESCO Prize-Dionysus Madrid.
The project began as a primitive attempt to rescue the company launched by the poet Federico García Lorca, who traveled to many villages in the Spanish territory offering free theater represented by university students.
Throughout his five years of existence have participated in the same 16 schools of Drama and Theatre Classroom various Spanish universities, including that of Murcia.
In total 450 localities have been Spanish and correctional facilities which have benefited from the project, which has allowed the representation of works of Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Tirso de Molina, Alberti and Azorin, among others.
