Murcia 2016 committed to the integration of citizens from the knowledge of languages from three years (05/08/2010)

The preliminary application of Murcia as European Capital of Culture 2016, co-presented by the City of Murcia, Regional Government, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad Católica San Antonio, Caja Murcia and Caja Mediterráneo under the theme 'City of Peace, land of light' , provides interesting initiatives within the areas of language and literature.

Peace and light are, in fact, the threads of all the cultural program, which is divided into sixteen sections, among which are the languages through which knowledge is removed barriers between citizens and contributing to coexistence harmony and peace, and literature and the treatment of light in it.

In the Languages section of the 2016 cultural program Murcia promote multilingualism as a tool for better integration of citizens by programming language courses more relevant in the European Union such as English, French and German, to which can then be added other languages.

These courses, scheduled before and during 2016, will be held in the city of Murcia in cooperation with European cultural and linguistic institutions based in Spain, such as Alliance Française, British Council and Goethe Institut and aimed at all citizens.

At the same time be raised cultural awareness courses for EU countries in collaboration with these and other cultural institutions based in Spain and the Dante Alighieri, the Polish Institute of Culture, the Czech Centre in Madrid, the Romanian Cultural Institute Madrid or the American Institute of Finland, also established in Spain and whose objective is the promotion of language and / or culture of the countries they represent.

Murcia 2016 also aims to promote language learning for children, aged three and six years, with the collaboration of the Department of Education, British Film Institute (BFI).

It will launch a film session schedule by which the smallest will have contact with English and French cultures, accessing a range of vocabulary and participating in a series of interactive activities designed to work your understanding.

In addition, workshops will be organized to carry comics in languages other than Spanish where participants, large and small, they can display everything you've learned and convey it to people in creative ways.

As for the translation, Murcia 2016 conference will present a program including a charge of the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission and experts from different European universities.

Murcia 2016 conferences, which gather on one side, academic experts in the field of translation embarked on this European commitment to the qualifications of the translators, and other professionals from the European institutions, will focus on several issues :

- University education in the field of translation and language learning and enrichment through cooperation between universities.

- New technologies applied to translation.

Its use in the translation industry in Europe and European institutions.

- Job prospects for translators in the European Union.

Thus, Murcia gather experts from different cities in the Europe of fifteen (France, UK, Italy, Ireland, Finland and Spain) and twenty five (Poland, Slovenia and Estonia).

For the moment, and in preparation for this initiative of Murcia in 2016 and in collaboration with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Murcia, is scheduled a talk by Klaus Ahrend, responsible for external translation of the European Commission about freelance job opportunities offered by this institution, of great interest to students and professionals.

Moreover, and in order to encourage creativity in writing, Murcia 2016 will launch creative writing workshops in fiction and poetry in English and Spanish.

Workshops on creative writing in English and communication skills will be undertaken with the collaboration of the Edinburgh City of Literature, the first city of literature of the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO.

In parallel, design a literary path consisting of a real and virtual tour through Murcia sites linked to internationally renowned writers who were in town or selected as the scene of his creations: Cervantes (The gipsy maid), Jorge Guillén, Miguel Hernández, Federico García Lorca and Miguel Espinosa.
