The City Council is successfully launched a project for youth from 14 to 16 years to stop skipping school (02/08/2010)

Eleven students, ages 14 and 16, have participated during the academic year 2009/2010 in the Hall Occupational launched in the IES José Planes (Espinardo), so that young absentee regained interest in attending class and continue their studies.

The project has been carried out by the Department of Education and Youth and Health and Social Services, who run Fulgencio Sánchez and María Dolores Cervantes, respectively, through an agreement with the Ministry of Education.

Classes have been developed in the CEIP Salzillo (Espinardo) and the IES José Planes.

Youth who have participated in this project come from the prop, Espinardo and Guadeloupe.

Students are in a situation of lack of schooling or dropping out of school early, have a disadvantaged family situation have not achieved the objectives of secondary education, the level of absenteeism is high and present difficulties in the process of socialization.

In particular, all youth had a high rate of absenteeism.

This initiative has reduced absenteeism by students participating in the program, which in June was above 90% attendance, has recovered two ESL students who had five of the students have surpassed the educational environment school program, seven continue their training in Initial Vocational Training programs and four remain in the classroom next year.

The activities undertaken have been designed to convey experiences and knowledge relevant to their social, cultural enrichment and expansion of expectations regarding their interests and future.

In addition to the Mechanical Workshop and the activities of the Occupational Hall, have visited the neighborhood, regional library, car dealership, Aqualandia, etc.

Participated in sports as table tennis and indoor football, saw movies, participated in a computer workshop and made an end of year party.

Truancy

The City Council has served 732 cases of truancy during the academic year 2009/2010 (421 boys and 311 girls).

In the municipality of Murcia last year enrolled 45,338 children in 19,628 primary and Secondary.

Truancy cases in which it has had to step municipal service Social Services have been 425 cases in Primary and Secondary 307.

Missing class students have been registered in 82 primary schools and 43 secondary schools.

Of the total 732 cases of absenteeism served, corresponding to 234 and 168 Roma children less immigrants.

In primary school, absenteeism has been 165 girls and 260 boys, while in high school was of 146 girls and 161 boys.

Truancy cases detected in primary are closely linked to the milieu in which centers are located, it comes with serious social deficits neighborhoods like Los Rosales (El Palmar), the Holy Spirit (Espinardo), La Fama, La Paz, or core areas of Roma or immigrants as the prop, La Alberca, Cabeza de Torres, La Ñora, San Andres and Santa Cruz.

Once schools truancy cases reported to the City, are assumed by the Social Educator of the area, establishing an intervention program with the child and his family.

Reports on the legal obligations of school and work to incorporate the child to the various projects and activities carried out by the municipal social services, and provides retail support to prevent conduct absentee aid in support of education, school support , joining extracurricular activities, etc.

In the Municipal Truancy Plan involved the Department of Health and Human Services, which runs Fulgencio Cervantes, and the Education and Youth, which runs María Dolores Sánchez.

This plan will be revised to accommodate the Regional Plan for Prevention, Monitoring and Control of School Absenteeism in the Region of Murcia, which was just adopted.
