Vice President of ALEM and Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache provides a comprehensive innovative awareness campaign aimed at municipal employees that aims to reduce municipal energy consumption through the formation and change of habits.
The campaign aims to provide information and methods of operation to municipal employees to balance their consumption needs during the workday with the real needs of the service to achieve an optimum working environment from the standpoint of energy efficiency.
With this campaign officials continue saving tips that indicates the screen saver can save between 3% and 7% of energy consumption in municipal buildings, associated with changing consumption patterns in their work which is a total energy savings of between 130,000 and 270,000 kwh a year on electricity if it accounted for more than 300 municipal buildings at the disposal of City Hall.
By way of comparison, it should be noted that 130,000 kWh per year is what we consume three schools per year, while 270,000 kwh per year is also consuming five schools in one year.
A home consumes about 4,000 kWh per year so 130.000kwh will save the equivalent of 33 houses, a saving of 270,000 kwh would be equivalent to 68 homes per year.
On average, each building can save up to 600 kwh per year per building.
This saves emissions between 57,000 and 121,000 kg of CO2 per year.
Only on the boards associated with the use of computer equipment can save about 40kwh by computer since a year (ie per person per year), representing approximately 17 per year per seat kgCO2.
Given that the number of computer stations for city employees over 1000 teams this is an estimated savings of more than 40000 kwh / year and 17000 kg of CO2 a year.
Daily round energy savings of 162 kwh / year.
The campaign is based on three key pillars: feeling, knowing and doing.
First, it seeks to raise awareness among employees of what we can do together.
The reality is that through the addition of small daily gestures can save lots of energy and change the world.
Secondly, it is necessary to inform employees of what these small gestures to know what we are doing right and what habits should be corrected.
Third, it is about working to help other colleagues to act.
This new campaign has several phases.
The first one includes the creation of a screensaver that will install the computer stations of municipal employees in the reporting of several important saving tips, like turning off the computer when leaving for an extended period of job, off the printer at the end of the workday, duplexing or control the temperature of the air conditioning.
The design of the original and lively.
This performance will be followed by others such as the placement of signs and markings at the municipal building with recommendations on the efficient use of energy-consuming equipment or at the entrance and exit of work areas.
In this way it is intended that municipal employees actively participate in reducing energy consumption of the City through a program that seeks to promote eminently active employee engagement in this important collective challenge is to combat climate change .
This campaign has been co-funded through the Intelligent Energy for Europe of the European Commission that seeks to promote the responsible use of energy as a way to improve Europe's competitiveness and combat climate change.
