The Ambassador of Haiti to Spain, Yolette Azor-Charles, has conveyed its appreciation to the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, by the response and the solidarity shown by the Murcia after the earthquake that devastated the country in January and destroyed much of its infrastructure .
House, accompanied by the responsibility for Development Cooperation, Beatriz Hontoria, received this morning in his office the Ambassador, who had been informed about the progress of the work of reconstruction.
Yolette Azor-Charles has attended the meeting accompanied by representatives of the NGO Action Fire, which is conducting a project to build temporary shelters in Haiti.
The aim is to enable between 100 and 200 shelters, depending on the funds that meet, "that will top an estimated 500 people, figuring that each house a family.
Be installed in Grand Goave, about two hours drive west of Port au Prince and the work, which will last two months, starting in September.
The construction consists of load-bearing walls made from crushed debris-filled bags, according to the design developed jointly by the Colegio de Arquitectos de Murcia and Universidad Catolica San Antonio.
NGO members are building a prototype of the same scale in the Plaza de Santo Domingo in Murcia, in order to be visited by citizens, thus giving the widest possible dissemination.
Concerts and charity galas
The catastrophe in Haiti led the City Council to undertake various actions to join the support offered by the Murcia through various non-governmental development organizations, associations of physically and mentally disabled, women's centers, senior centers, etc., to raise funds for the victims.
For this collection was installed for a month a stand at the plaza of Santo Domingo and 150 ballots were distributed at the municipal office of information and cultural centers to collect donations.
In addition, the City Council in March sponsored a solidarity concert which featured a performance of Parrandboleros, while last month were the centers of women drivers in a charity gala in Beniaján.
Both collected donations have been channeled through Caritas.
