Adequate physical education in secondary and high schools can help maintain the proper development of the spine, according to one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Murcia by William Alberto Peña.
This research also recommended that sport should start in primary education, "before the pubertal growth spurt."
To carry out this thesis, the author chose a sample of 222 students were divided into six groups, three experimental and three groups of control.
The experimental groups performed the postural education program in physical education classes in secondary and high schools for a full school year in two sessions per week.
The thesis has obtained excellent cum laude, was led by professors Fernando Santonja and Pilar Sainz de Baranda.
