Statement from the Rector of the UMU in relation to the events that took place yesterday (27/04/2018)

In relation to the denunciation of some facts allegedly constituting a crime occurred yesterday afternoon, on April 26, the University of Murcia will collaborate in everything necessary with the bodies and security forces of the State and judicial authorities to facilitate the investigation.

It should be clear that the University of Murcia condemns and rejects any act of violence and abuse in the university environment.

A few days ago the Protocol for the prevention, detection and action against sexual harassment was approved, based on sex, sexual orientation and identity and / or gender expression of the University of Murcia.

The Rector of the University of Murcia is in contact with the relatives of the student and has offered for any kind of help that our institution can offer them.

Finally, the University of Murcia will analyze the regulations for the organization of this type of festive activities in case it is necessary to update it, as well as the protocols of action in these emergency situations.

You can not allow acts of this kind and much less within the university community.

We repeat our absolute condemnation of this and any act that harms the dignity of the people.
