The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, discovered this afternoon the bust of Martinez Tornel that the City Council has yielded to the CEIP Martínez Tornel de Patiño, a commemorative sculpture with which the educational center pays homage to this journalist from Patiño, who worked for the development social and cultural of the municipality and the preservation of Murcian traditions, from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century.
The bust that was discovered this afternoon in the educational center is a replica of the mold of the sculpture that presides over the Martínez Tornel Square in Murcia, next to La Glorieta, made by the sculptor Juan José Quirós, and inaugurated in December 2016 with reason for the centenary of Martínez Tornel's death.
The piece, realistic cut, pays tribute to one of the most illustrious residents of Murcia, Martinez Tornel, who was a lawyer, archivist, writer, chronicler of Murcia and founder of the newspaper Diario de Murcia, working for the development of the city and its culture, through his journalistic work for more than five decades.
