Under the title "The geological heritage of the Espinardo Campus of the University of Murcia: viewpoints, rocks, fossils, soils and museums, to enjoy and learn Geology", on Saturday, May 12, an excursion will take place to discover the geological legacy of the region.
With the help of more than twenty speakers and guides from the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, the Marble Technological Center and the UMU, coordinated by the UMU geologist, Francisco Guillén Mondéjar, attendees can learn about the rich geological diversity from the campus through a total of ten stops.
For this, basic knowledge of many of the geological disciplines such as hydrogeology, environmental geology, geotechnics, sedimentology, paleontology, petrology or mineralogy, among others, will be used.
During the tour, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the University Social Center, attendees will be shown the importance of teaching geology at all educational levels and creating a vocation among students to study this science.
"The Region has such a huge geological diversity, that it is an open-air geological laboratory, used by geologists from all over the world for hundreds of years, Murcia due to its long geological history, its heritage, its resources and geological risks, among which highlights earthquakes and floods, needs more geologists and universities that teach this grade "highlights Guillén Mondéjar.
