The University of Murcia (UMU), through its Vice-rectorate of Students, organizes a regional congress where the youngest will have their first approach to research through the presentation of scientific projects.
On Wednesday, April 25, 350 secondary students from high school along with about 50 secondary teachers participate in the 'IX Regional Congress of Junior Researchers CMN-CARM'.
This meeting, which will take place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UMU, has as main objective to promote scientific vocations and to encourage the students' ability to face the creation of research projects.
In such a way that the participants will have to elaborate, expose and argue in a reasoned way their projects before a wide audience.
"From the UMU we are determined to encourage relations between students and teachers and, for this, we will put all the efforts and instruments at our disposal," says the vice chancellor of Students of the UMU, Mª Cristina Sánchez, who points out that With this congress more than three hundred young people from different educational centers of the Region of Murcia will start in the wonderful world of science.
Sánchez estimates that the students will begin to appreciate and enjoy the pleasure of creating new knowledge and contribute their "grannito de arena" to improve our quality of life.
The opening ceremony, which will begin at 9:30 am, will be chaired by the rector of the UMU, José Lujan, and the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá Martínez.
After the opening, the professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and coordinator of the Unit of Scientific Culture of the UMU, José Manuel López Nicolás, creator of the blog Scientia, will give the talk 'What is the true meaning of the research?'.
Then, oral communications and the presentation of posters will be developed, which are the result of research carried out by the participants in their educational centers, and which will cover all knowledge branches: science and technology, social sciences and humanities, and arts.
With this activity, "we want to encourage that in addition to the girls and boys who visit us have their first contact with research, discover with their projects new aspects of science and research that they did not know and understand that research, although it may seem like a independent field, is actually interdisciplinary ", explains the coordinator of Students of the UMU, Diego García Ayuso.
The convention will close with the closing conference given by the professors of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and creators of UPCT-Bloopbusters José Luis Serrano, Enrique Castro, Juan Francisco Sánchez and José Víctor Rodríguez.
Finally, the organizing committee will award various prizes to the best papers presented in this edition, which will be evaluated by professors and researchers from the different areas of UMU and UPCT.
This activity is organized jointly by the University of Murcia, through the Office of the Vice-Rector for Students, and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Autonomous Community.
It is also included within the framework of actions carried out by the Campus of International Excellence 'Mare Nostrum 37/38' of the public Universities of the Region together with the CARM.
