The summer courses of the XXXV International University of the Sea (Unimar) will arrive this year at 19 venues spread throughout the Region of Murcia with a complete offer that is specified in 76 courses.
The presentation of the programming has taken place this Monday in the Convalecencia building, headquarters of the Rectorate, in an act that has been chaired by the rectors of the University of Murcia, José Luján;
and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, and attended by representatives of the venues and municipalities where the Unimar courses are held.
The broad program includes courses from all subject areas and devotes space to debate, reflection, specialized training, culture and leisure.
In total there will be 52 courses organized by the UMU and 24 by the UPCT for which more than two thousand students will pass until the month of October.
The most classic courses, some of which have been held for 35 years, such as the scientific diving course at the Diving Center of the Navy, in Cartagena;
other new ones are joining together.
These are courses like 'Serial Killer: Understanding Your Mind', which will be developed in Águilas;
'Clinical hypnosis in practice', in Murcia;
o Mar 'Minor Lab: art and science for a landscape in crisis', which will be held at the Cartagena headquarters.
The techniques of relaxation, sports, cinema or political communication will also have space this year in Unimar.
To the list of venues is included in this edition Pliego, where a course on Argaric Archeology will be held, organized together with the headquarters of Totana and Mula.
The director of the International University of the Sea, Mercedes Bernabé, has also highlighted in the presentation the importance of the courses with a marked international profile, keys for attracting foreign students.
On the other hand, this year the courses for pre-university students also have a special role.
There will be summer schools in the Faculties of Fine Arts, Biology, Computer Science and Applied Geography.
In addition, a course of Nautical Activities in the Mar Menor will be organized.
The rector of the University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, highlighted the work of both universities "to continue taking steps so that the entire Region receives the information it needs to continue advancing" and congratulated itself because thanks to the joint work of the institutions and participating venues "year after year we are getting to reach more people, far beyond what our students are".
José Luján, rector of the University of Murcia, has highlighted the enormous value of Unimar as an instrument for University and society to be closer.
Luján has expressed his firm intention to take the witness of the inheritance received in this important field and has committed "to maintain and improve it" in the coming years given the importance of the "value of dissemination beyond the classrooms and laboratories" .
The Director General of Universities, Juan Monzón, has valued in his speech "the enormous impact that these courses have in the municipalities where they are developed", giving access to knowledge to the citizens who have attended the conferences and seminars.
Alicia Ruiz Bañón, vice-chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, for her part, has made clear the commitment of Unimar to "turn each venue into a debate stage" and be a scientific and cultural reference with a program that complements the offer of official studies .
More than 2,000 students will attend these summer courses, making Unimar one of the widest offers in the whole country.
