Cambiemos Murcia has submitted a motion to the Plenary next Thursday by requesting the support of the City Council for the celebration of events related to the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Marcelino Camacho.
Through the Councilor Nacho Tornel, the initiative proposes that the Consistory support the activities organized by the State Commission created to give value to the figure of Camacho and help the dissemination of materials related to his historical contribution, such as the documentary film about life of the trade unionist.
In addition, the municipal formation raises in the resolutions of the motion that a street, avenue or square of the municipality bears his name in recognition of his struggle for freedom, social justice and workers' rights.
Marcelino Camacho (1918-2010) is a symbol of labor and unionism in the recent history of Spain.
He was arrested after the fascist military coup of Francisco Franco accused of "aid to the rebellion."
He crossed the Sierra Madrileña walking to join the Republican side in which he fought during the Civil War.
After going through several concentration camps and forced labor, Camacho began to work in Madrid as a steel worker, where in 1964 he created the Metal Workers Commission.
He was arrested several times for his role as a trade unionist and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
He was later pardoned and continued his efforts to improve the working conditions of the working class.
Promoter of the birth of Comisiones Obreras, the life of the trade unionist was marked by the fight for democracy and decent work.
Numerous social, union and political organizations are now celebrating the centenary of their birth.
